Chapter 65: Pursue

Ji Ling thought to himself, Of course, I regret it—I regret it to death!

Looking back now, Ning Yu must have already noticed something was off when he first saw him hopping around in front of him for no reason, right? So maybe the plot had already started to derail in the previous life, and he hadn’t even realized it. Instead, he had foolishly believed that he had perfectly completed his mission…

If only he hadn’t meddled, or if his acting had been a little better, would this whole mess have been avoided?

Ji Ling was utterly distraught!

He must have been out of his mind, with his brain full of water, to think that Ning Yu needed his protection—that he needed to be saved.

Ji Ling looked at him coldly. “In the previous life, you were caught by Carlos on purpose, weren’t you? You never actually needed me to save you.”

Ning Yu was silent for a moment before saying, “Yes.”

Ji Ling raised an eyebrow and let out a cold laugh. “Then why are you even asking me? Don’t you already know whether or not I regret it?”

Ning Yu stared at Ji Ling for a long time before finally letting out a bitter laugh. “Yeah… you should regret it.”

So what exactly was I hoping for?

Ji Ling must have saved him simply because he was kind to everyone, or maybe it was because of Jing Sui, or for some other reason he wasn’t aware of… but it was certainly not out of love or care for him.

When Ji Ling realized his kindness had been deceived and manipulated, it was only natural for him to regret it.

Actually, I regret it too.

I regret that, even though I knew why you had come, I still let you stay.

And even before I had figured out my own feelings… I lost the chance to see you again.

Ning Yu closed his eyes and opened them again. His gaze returned to calmness, as if that brief moment of sorrow had been nothing but an illusion. He looked at Ji Ling with a smile, his voice gentle as he said, “Back in Luanshui City, I asked you if I could pursue you when we met again. You agreed.”

Wow, Ji Ling was absolutely stunned!

This guy actually had the nerve to bring that up? It would’ve been better if he hadn’t mentioned it—now he was even angrier! Because back then, this bastard had been digging a hole for him, right? Afraid he wouldn’t agree, he even shamelessly played the pity card, forcing him to go against his own will and accept the request. And now that his identity had been exposed, he dared to bring up the past again?!

The audacity!

Are you mocking me on purpose?

To express his fury, Ji Ling widened his eyes fiercely, doing his best to look intimidating as he said, “That’s because I was tricked! Now I’m telling you again—I don’t agree!”

Ning Yu looked at the young man baring his fangs and claws. Even though he was trying hard to appear fierce, he still wasn’t scary at all…

Ning Yu smiled slightly and said, “Everything I said was from the heart. I even told you that I was part of the Rebel, so…” He stepped closer to Ji Ling and looked into his eyes. “What exactly did I lie to you about?”

Ji Ling was so furious he almost cried!

This bastard did tell him he was part of the Rebel. Such an obvious fact had been right in front of him, yet he had refused to see it! He had even gone out of his way to make excuses for him. Looking at it this way… wasn’t this actually his own fault?

Ji Ling’s face burned red with shame. He took a deep breath, placed one hand on his hip, and pointed at Ning Yu with the other, saying coldly, “You never told me that you were Gabriel! Anyway, you’re not allowed to pursue me—I’ll never trust you again!”

With that, he turned around and stormed off!

Ning Yu watched the furious boy’s retreating figure but didn’t chase after him. After a long while, he lowered his gaze and let out a soft, helpless laugh.

……………
Ji Ling was absolutely mortified. He was already humiliated enough, yet this guy had to go and bring up those things on purpose. Did he have no shame?!

Hah, so what if you’re good at arguing?

If you won’t respect me, then I won’t respect you either!

The system, seeing its host sulking, spoke up sympathetically: [Actually, if reasoning doesn’t work, you can always try something else.]

Ji Ling: [Like what?]

System: [Throwing a tantrum, maybe?]

Ji Ling: […]

Does he look like the kind of person who throws tantrums? Huh? Does he?!

Ji Ling absolutely refused to admit that he was mad at himself for being an idiot. He said coldly: [Before I came to this world, you guys showed me the original novel. Where in the novel does it say even a single word about Ning Yu being Gabriel?]

System: […]

Ji Ling: [The novel was filled with endless praise, describing Ning Yu as a noble and righteous gentleman, a war hero beloved by all, a fearless icon of the common people. But it never once mentioned any connection between him and the Rebel.]

System: […]

Ji Ling: [Do you know what it means to have preconceived notions?]

The system didn’t dare to speak.

Ji Ling: [I’m a reasonable person, so I won’t throw a tantrum. Just explain this to me properly. :)]

The system awkwardly said: [I’ll report this matter to the higher-ups…]

Ji Ling was already sick of the system’s constant excuses. After all this time, there were still no results. He didn’t take the words to heart at all and angrily went to sleep.

The next day, he slept until nearly noon before sluggishly getting up.

A life without goals or ambition made him feel like a salted fish.

Ji Ling changed clothes, washed his face, and was about to head out to find A Man as usual when he suddenly heard the system’s voice.

Unlike before, this time the system’s tone was serious and somewhat excited. It said: [The research team’s findings are out.]

Ji Ling froze mid-step. He almost thought he was hallucinating. After a long moment, he suppressed his surging emotions and asked, his voice trembling: [What did you say?]

The system realized its words might have caused a misunderstanding and quickly clarified: [It’s not the final decision on your request, just the preliminary research results.]

Ji Ling had already waited this long, so he wasn’t in a rush for another day or two. He quickly calmed down and said: [Go on.]

The system explained: [The research team investigated the various anomalies in this world and conducted an inquiry in the real world. They discovered that the reason this world fell out of control was that the novel was not completed under normal circumstances.]

Ji Ling frowned: [What does that mean?]

The system replied: [This novel is called The Emperor Star’s Beloved. The author, ‘Yaoyao Writes Nonsense Every Day,’ stopped updating at 200,000 words due to reader backlash and insults. Many readers complained that the story was misleading and wrongly tagged. It was labeled as ‘strong gong x strong shou, love-hate romance,’ but they argued that the shou wasn’t strong at all. One was SSS-level, the other only S-level; one was the emperor of the empire, while the other was just a civilian idol. Even though Ning Yu wasn’t exactly weak, compared to Jing Sui, the gap was still significant. It couldn’t be considered a true ‘strong x strong’ dynamic, nor did it really deliver on the ‘love-hate’ aspect.]

Ji Ling had already sensed where this was going: […]

The system coughed awkwardly: [After being flamed for days, the author stopped updating. A month later, they went online and hastily dropped an ending—Jing Sui and Ning Yu got engaged. The end.]

Ji Ling: […]

The system: [According to the research team, the novel was originally planned to be 400,000 words long, but it was abruptly ended at 210,000 words. The author did not follow the original outline or complete all the content. They just wrote up to the engagement and left it at that. So…]

Ji Ling took a deep breath and gritted out through clenched teeth: [I think the ‘strong x strong’ and ‘love-hate’ aspects are completely present. There is no deception at all. What do you think?]

The system felt incredibly guilty: […]

Ji Ling: [I worked so hard for so long, endured so much suffering, and now you're telling me I transmigrated into an unfinished novel that didn’t even have its foreshadowing resolved?! That my mission failed due to incomplete information?! That’s your research result?!]

Although Ji Ling appeared calm, the system could feel his fury: […]

Ji Ling let out a mirthless laugh: [What else do you know?]

The system murmured in a tiny voice: [The research team also found that since the novel wasn’t properly finished, meaning the author didn’t provide a true ending, the world became uncontrollable and started operating on its own… Everything is now possible. You can no longer judge the characters based solely on the original novel’s content.]

Ji Ling was silent for several seconds before suddenly flipping the table: [So not only did you fail to identify Gabriel’s identity, but now you’re telling me that this world has completely deviated from its original trajectory, that it’s no longer the same world as in the book?! Then what’s the point of this mission?!]

System: […]

Ji Ling’s chest heaved violently as he raged: [Explain. You owe me an explanation. This is your mistake!]

The system immediately vowed: [I will do my best to fight for compensation for you!]

Ji Ling: [I hope you actually follow through this time. :)]

System: […]

………………
Because of the system’s revelation, Ji Ling stayed sullen for days. But he knew that being angry was pointless. From a certain perspective, this might even be a turning point.

There was no longer a reason to continue this mission. According to the research team’s findings, the Time-Space Management Committee would have to take action and provide Ji Ling with a response.

At that point, whether it was switching missions, switching worlds, or… going home directly, anything was possible.

Ji Ling found himself absent-minded every day, anxiously waiting for news from the system.

He was even more nervous than waiting for his exam results…

He didn’t even have the energy to think about Ning Yu anymore.

That day, Ji Ling got up as usual, only to unexpectedly find a transparent glass bottle on his table. Inside was half a bottle of clear water, with a single flower bud placed inside. The flower had white, semi-transparent petals, a few of which had begun to unfurl. It was delicate and beautiful, emitting a faint, elegant fragrance that was particularly soothing.

Ji Ling paused in surprise. Where did this flower come from?

The system, having been terrified for days and not daring to make a peep for fear of triggering Ji Ling’s anger, immediately seized the chance to redeem itself. It eagerly explained: [Ning Yu left it here this morning.]

Ji Ling: […]

He finally remembered that a few days ago, Ning Yu had mentioned wanting to pursue him…

But Ning Yu hadn’t done anything after that, so Ji Ling thought he was just joking and didn’t take it seriously. Who would’ve thought he’d suddenly send flowers? Was he actually serious about pursuing him? No way, right?

Ji Ling’s face showed a hint of surprise, but he quickly calmed down. He was already used to the extravagant, over-the-top ways Jing Sui and Carlos had pursued him… Now, looking at such a simple, understated, and old-fashioned courtship method, he actually felt a bit unaccustomed to it.

Besides, he, Young Master Ji, had seen all kinds of luxuries! Would he be impressed by a mere flower? Ha!

Who gave you permission to pursue me?

Ji Ling walked over, picked up the vase, and was about to throw it away. But as he got closer and caught the fragrance of the flower… he suddenly felt it would be a pity. Just as he hesitated slightly, A Man suddenly came looking for him.

Ji Ling’s eyes flickered. He smiled at A Man and said, “This flower is for you.”

A Man: “...”

His dark eyes looked at Ji Ling, then at the flower in Ji Ling’s hand, and he exclaimed, “Isn’t this a Snow Bud from Fengjian Ridge? It looks freshly picked! It takes several hours to go back and forth from here… Brother Bai, where did you get it?”

Ji Ling’s expression stiffened. “I bought it.”

A Man’s big eyes blinked at him.

Ji Ling suddenly felt a little guilty. Maybe he should just forget it. He was about to take the flower back, but A Man grinned, took it from him, and laughed heartily. “Then thank you, Brother Bai!”

With that, he ran off with the flower.

Ji Ling: “...”

Something felt off. Did he overlook something?

A Man seemed normal when he returned later, but his gaze toward Ji Ling was a little strange. Throughout the day, he curiously asked Ji Ling about Ning Yu, praising him in every way possible—almost as if he wanted to paint him as the most wonderful person in existence. Finally, out of nowhere, he told Ji Ling, “Brother Ning Yu has never had a boyfriend or a girlfriend. I wonder what kind of person he actually likes.”

Then he looked at Ji Ling with bright, expectant eyes.

Ji Ling finally caught on, his expression turning into one of frustration. He deeply regretted his impulsive decision to throw away the flower. Now people were suspecting something between him and Ning Yu…

The day was exhausting, and Ji Ling could barely endure it. He came home early that night.

The moment he walked in, he saw a man sitting in the living room. Ji Ling was startled, but when he took a closer look, he realized it was Ning Yu.

Although he was staying at Ning Yu’s house, he hadn’t run into him even once these past few days. He had almost started treating this place like his own home, so Ning Yu’s sudden appearance surprised him. Remembering the flower incident from this morning, Ji Ling became wary, feeling a little nervous inside.

Sure enough, Ning Yu gazed at him and slowly said, “I saw A Man today.”

Ji Ling felt guilty. He had given away the flower Ning Yu had painstakingly picked. He hadn’t known at first that the flower required so much effort. His eyes darted around as he prepared to strike first and push back against Ning Yu. But before he could speak, Ning Yu continued.

He smiled faintly. “I heard you’ve been asking A Man a lot about me lately.”

Ji Ling was taken aback. So Ning Yu wasn’t here about the flower? He let out a breath of relief. As for this question, he had already prepared an answer. Ji Ling lifted his chin proudly. “That’s right. You’re Gabriel, the leader of the Rebel, always shrouded in mystery. Since I have the chance, of course, I want to gather intelligence on you. This is top-secret information!”

Ning Yu’s dark eyes gleamed. “Oh? And after learning all this… what do you plan to do?”

Ji Ling was stumped. He quickly improvised and said fiercely, “Once I have enough intel, I’ll make sure someone takes you out! Eliminate you, my greatest threat!”

Ning Yu stared at him for a moment before curving his lips into a slight smile. Then he chuckled. “Then why not ask me directly?”

Ji Ling froze.

Ning Yu stood up and approached him, lowering his gaze to meet Ji Ling’s eyes. “A Man only knows hearsay. If you really want to understand me, you could just ask me in person.”

Ji Ling stared blankly into Ning Yu’s dark eyes. They were deep and obscure, warm yet layered with complexity, like whirlpools drawing him in. His heartbeat quickened slightly, and his face grew warm. He stammered, “W-Who wants to understand you?! I’m just investigating my enemy!”

Ning Yu looked at him intently, his tone gentle and amused. “Really? Sometimes… curiosity about someone is the first step to liking them.”

Like hell it is!

Ji Ling glared at him. Who the hell liked him? Could he be any more shameless? He gritted his teeth and said, “Stop being delusional.”

Ning Yu pursed his lips and let out a quiet laugh.

Curiosity leads to understanding. Proximity leads to affection…

I wasn’t talking about you. I was talking about myself.

He looked at the young man, whose face was tinged red with embarrassment and anger. In those bright, clear blue eyes, his own reflection was captured. Suddenly… he had the urge to get closer.

But he held back. He didn’t want to make Ji Ling dislike him even more.

Ning Yu spoke softly, his voice deep yet light as the wind. “Sometimes, I feel like… you don’t belong to this world at all.”

Because you never open your heart to anyone.

Instinctively, you reject anyone who tries to get close.

Ji Ling’s body stiffened, his face changing drastically. By the time he snapped out of it, Ning Yu had already walked past him and left…

He stood there dazed for a moment, and then he returned to his room, threw himself onto the bed, buried his face in the pillow, and rolled around in frustration.

So when is the result of his application going to come?!

Let him die and reincarnate already. He couldn't take this anymore!

………………
A few more days passed. Life remained peaceful and uneventful, and Ji Ling did not see Ning Yu again.

This made him breathe a little easier.

Every time he faced Ning Yu, he always felt a sense of unease, as if he was about to be completely seen through. Even though he stubbornly maintained his tough facade, he couldn't shake the feeling that he had almost been exposed… If Ning Yu weren't a person of this world and had any inkling that his world was just a book, he probably would have already figured out his true identity.

Ji Ling had to admit that, from any perspective, Ning Yu was both intelligent and powerful.

The label ‘Strong gong, Strong shou, Love-Hate Relationship’ was definitely accurate!

Even though the ‘love’ part was missing right now, the ‘strong-strong’ and ‘love-hate’ elements were still going strong. :)

That evening, A Man invited Ji Ling to a gathering at Aunt Zola’s house, where all the neighbors would be attending.

Ji Ling gladly agreed. Everyone had been very kind and welcoming to him during this time, and he genuinely enjoyed being around them.

Here, Ji Ling felt something akin to his life back on Earth. These people were like his parents’ friends—uncles, aunts, and elders—creating a warm and familiar atmosphere.

A Man and Ji Ling brought some fruit and arrived at Aunt Zola’s house. She had a courtyard, and by the time they got there, quite a few people had already arrived. A barbecue grill was set up, and everyone was gathered under the grapevine trellis, chatting, laughing, eating, drinking, and playing games in a lively atmosphere.

A Man sat next to Ji Ling, biting into an apple, then suddenly turned to him and whispered mysteriously, “Brother Bai, have you seen Brother Ning Yu recently?”

Ji Ling immediately became wary. This kid had been bringing up Ning Yu every chance he got lately, always nosy and curious. He cautiously replied, “No, I haven’t.”

A Man blinked and said, “I think Brother Ning Yu really likes you. Do you like him?”

Ji Ling answered seriously, “No.”

A Man seemed a little disappointed and asked dejectedly, “Really? Why not?”

Ji Ling was silent for a moment before saying, “No reason.”

Even without Ning Yu constantly messing with him, he could never accept anyone in this world.

A Man sighed. Seeing that Ji Ling didn’t want to talk about it, he reluctantly changed the subject.

Before long, Aunt Zola came out carrying a tray of bread. She winked at A Man and said with a smile, “Go to the cellar and bring back some wine, will you? We’re almost out. Get the white wine from the innermost section.”

“Got it!” A Man stood up immediately and called Ji Ling to go with him.

They went to the back of the courtyard, and A Man opened the entrance to the wine cellar. He hesitated for a moment, then looked at Ji Ling for help and said, “Brother Bai, I’m kind of scared of the dark. Can you go in and get it? I’ll wait for you here.”

Ji Ling didn’t suspect anything and chuckled. “Alright.”

Then, he climbed down the ladder.

The cellar was dimly lit by a few energy-stone lamps. The lighting wasn’t very bright, but it was soft and warm. Ji Ling landed lightly on the ground and followed the corridor deeper inside. The space was quite large—clearly used not just as a wine cellar but also as a storage room. As he walked, he scanned his surroundings, looking for the white wine Aunt Zola had mentioned. Halfway through, he suddenly froze in place.

He had spotted Ning Yu.

Ning Yu was dressed in a simple white shirt, the top button undone, casually revealing his collarbone. He wore black trousers, leaning lazily against the wall. Holding a bottle of wine in his hand, he wiped the dust off and blew on it lightly. Just then, he noticed Ji Ling, a flicker of surprise flashing across his dark eyes before vanishing.

Ji Ling’s expression stiffened.

When did this guy get back? Wasn’t he supposed to be away on a mission? Why was he here?

Wait, hold on—A Man did this on purpose, didn’t he?! Maybe even Aunt Zola was in on it! That’s why they set him up like this! Otherwise, how could it be such a coincidence?

Ji Ling wanted to shake them by the shoulders and yell—Why are you all so determined to set us up?!

Feelings can’t be forced, okay?!

His face darkened as he turned to leave, but when he reached the ladder, he found that the hatch above had already been closed. No matter how hard he pushed, it wouldn’t budge. This only confirmed his suspicions about A Man’s scheming.

Ji Ling was furious! He climbed back down, walked to the table, and rummaged through it, trying to find something to pry the hatch open. He refused to stay here.

Just then, he heard slow, steady footsteps behind him. Ning Yu approached leisurely and raised an eyebrow. “Looks like someone doesn’t want you to leave.”

Ji Ling turned around, eyes blazing with anger. “Did you set this up?”

Ning Yu curled his lips into a helpless smile. “I didn’t want to make things difficult for you. Even though I was invited, I chose to hide away here alone, yet you still doubt my intentions.”

Ji Ling: “……”

Who told you to be such a big liar all the time?

But thinking carefully, Ji Ling didn’t really believe this was Ning Yu’s doing. Ning Yu had already been exposed—there was no way he could deceive him anymore. On the other hand, A Man was clearly eager to set them up. Today was probably really just an accident, but the more that was the case, the more awkward and helpless Ji Ling felt.

He silently looked at Ning Yu, at a loss for words.

Ning Yu smiled at him and said, “But you don’t actually hate me that much, do you? They must be able to see that. Otherwise, they wouldn’t want to match us up.”

Who said I don’t hate you?

Ji Ling glared at him. “I hate you the most! I will never forgive you for what you did to me!”

Back then, as a straight man, he had made such a huge sacrifice. Just to save Ning Yu, he was even willing to let ‘Gabriel’ take advantage of him, enduring all sorts of humiliation and compromises. Now, just thinking about it made him feel unbearably ashamed and humiliated!

This matter could never be let go. Absolutely not!

Ning Yu took a step forward, his long legs closing the distance between them. His dark eyes gleamed with a deep, unreadable light as he lowered his head to gaze at Ji Ling…

Ji Ling hadn’t expected Ning Yu to suddenly move closer and instinctively took a step back, only to find his waist pressed against the table behind him—there was nowhere left to retreat. He immediately put on a tough front and stammered, “W-what are you trying to do?”

Even though he knew Ning Yu wouldn’t actually hurt him, this guy had done things like deceiving and forcibly kissing him before. What if he suddenly lost his mind again?!

After all, being handled like that by another man was terrifying!

Ning Yu’s gaze swept over Ji Ling’s eyes, noticing the brief flicker of panic. His expression remained calm and indifferent… He reached out and picked up a deep red cloth strip from the table behind Ji Ling.

Ji Ling’s heart nearly leapt out of his chest, his body stiffening. Memories of having his eyes blindfolded and being kissed came flooding back, making him panic. He was about to snap at Ning Yu when— The next moment, Ning Yu lifted the cloth and blindfolded himself.

Ji Ling: “……”

The man’s eyes were now covered by the red cloth, loosely tied at the back of his head. His high nose bridge was still visible, and below it, his lips curved in a sharp yet beautiful arc. His jawline was crisp, his Adam’s apple moved slightly, and the open collar of his white shirt revealed a faint glimpse of his collarbone…

Ji Ling stared at him in a daze, inexplicably unable to look away…

Ning Yu leaned forward slightly, one hand braced on the table behind Ji Ling. Even though his eyes were covered, it didn’t detract from his striking appearance. Instead, the dim lighting lent a strangely seductive air to him. He looked enticing, yet at the same time, as if he were offering himself up, completely at Ji Ling’s mercy…

Ji Ling’s heart pounded—thump, thump, thump.

Ning Yu’s soft pink lips parted slightly, and he let out a meaningful chuckle, his voice warm and gentle. “If you’re really so angry, you can do everything I did to you back to me. I promise I won’t resist.”

Ji Ling: “……”

He froze for several long seconds before his face suddenly burned red. Memories from before crashed into his mind all at once, making him so mortified that he nearly wanted to die on the spot! Who—who wants to do that to you?!

You wish! In your dreams!

Ji Ling was absolutely livid. Was this your way of admitting you were wrong?! You’re just trying to take advantage of me! I don’t even like men—why would I do that to you?! And I’m not a pervert!

He was furious!

With a cold voice, he snapped, “There’s no meaning in saying something like that. Back then, I had no choice. You threatened me. But right now, you’re doing this voluntarily. It’s completely different!”

Ning Yu didn’t move, the corners of his lips curling slightly. “It’s the same.”

Ji Ling shot back, “It’s not the same!”

Ning Yu said softly, “If you use your own life to threaten me, you can do anything to me. I, too, can be threatened by you.”

Ji Ling took several seconds to process his words, rephrasing them into a more comprehensible version—Ning Yu was saying that he could use suicide to threaten him.

System: [Huh… logically, that actually makes sense…]

Ji Ling: […]

He looked at Ning Yu, first embarrassed and angry, then so furious he started trembling.

Who the hell would use suicide to threaten you?! Am I brain-dead, crazy, out of my mind, tired of living?! Only a lunatic would resort to that! And for what—to do that to you?! I don’t even like men!

Besides, what kind of relationship do we even have? Why would I throw a tantrum and threaten suicide over you? And more importantly, why would you accept it?!

Does that kind of melodrama even fit us?

Do you think it does?!

And the real question here—is whether I can get revenge, not whether I want to!

Ji Ling: [I think he’s just taking advantage of me with his words :) ]

System: […] These complicated human emotions… it didn’t quite understand. How was this taking advantage?

Ji Ling glared at Ning Yu furiously.

Clap, clap, clap, clap, clap—he almost wanted to give Ning Yu a round of applause! Wow, what a genius! A true mastermind of twisted logic! Did he really think this would make Ji Ling forgive him?

Too bad for him—Ji Ling had no intention of playing along.

He just wanted Ning Yu to stay as far away as possible!

Ji Ling let out a cold snort. “Move aside.”

Ning Yu, blindfolded, remained still. He seemed puzzled for a moment, then after a brief pause, he murmured, “Do you feel that this form of revenge isn’t satisfying enough?”

Ji Ling nearly laughed from sheer rage. Satisfying? My ass!

Ning Yu waited for a moment but received no response from Ji Ling. He pressed his lips together, pondered briefly, and then said, “I see… you don’t want to take revenge that way. I have another proposal—you might find it acceptable.”

He leaned in closer to Ji Ling and spoke slowly, “You are an Imperial noble, and I am with the Rebel. As a noble, you were humiliated and toyed with by someone from the Rebel. That must make you furious. You must want nothing more than to kill me—that would be the only way to restore your dignity as a noble and rid yourself of this hatred in your heart.”

Now that sounded a bit more reasonable!

But Ji Ling had no interest in arguing with this shameless bastard. He just wanted to leave as soon as possible.

He sneered, “That’s right, I do want to kill you!”

So? Satisfied now? Can you move aside?!

Ning Yu fell silent for a moment. After a long pause, he let out a low sigh—there was a hint of helplessness, even a touch of sadness in it. “I understand.”

Understand what?!

Before Ji Ling could react, Ning Yu suddenly pulled a small knife from his waist, gently placed it in Ji Ling’s hand, and guided it to his own chest. “Then go ahead and kill me.”

Ji Ling’s hand, now holding the knife, was wrapped in Ning Yu’s warm grip. His face instantly filled with WTF?! “???”

What kind of absurd, over-the-top, melodramatic nonsense was this?!

Why did it feel like he was completely out of sync with the scene?

Should he now be heartbroken, sobbing, and wailing, ‘Why did you hurt me? Why did you deceive me? I hate you!’ Wouldn’t that fit the mood much better? This whole setting was tailor-made for a tragic, passionate love story!

But he just couldn’t bring himself to cry. On the contrary, he was even angrier!

You are the leader of the Rebel. An SSS-Level evolutionary. A human monster that even a laser cannon can’t kill. And now, you’re giving me some cheap little knife and expecting me to kill you? The blade probably wouldn’t even scratch you! If you’re going to put on a show, at least try to be convincing! Not this nonsense again!

Did he really think Ji Ling was an idiot?!

Ji Ling’s pent-up fury finally exploded! Bastard! Scumbag! Do you think I won’t dare?! Without thinking, he shoved the knife forward! Even if he couldn’t kill Ning Yu, at least stabbing him would be satisfying! I’ll stab you to death!

But to Ji Ling’s shock, that seemingly ordinary little knife effortlessly sank into the chest of this so-called SSS-Level evolutionary.

Ji Ling’s expression changed drastically. He reacted as fast as he could, instinctively pulling back—but the tip of the knife had already pierced in.

His lips trembled, his face drained of all color.

No… no way…

What kind of goddamn divine weapon was this?!

Ji Ling was completely dumbfounded.

But Ning Yu didn’t seem to feel any pain. He simply tightened his grip on Ji Ling’s trembling hand and, in a calm, gentle voice, said, “Before you let go, think carefully.”

Then, he slowly lowered his head and whispered against Ji Ling’s ear with a soft chuckle, “This is your one and only chance to kill me. If you miss it, I won’t give you a second.”
